児童書ファンタジーらしいわかりやすいストーリーになっています。基本的な文法があれば読める内容ですが、つまづきやすいのはバラエティ豊かな動詞表現。日本語では「ぼそっとつぶやく、ひそりと囁く」などオノマトペをつけて様子を表現することが多いですが、英語はそういったニュアンスを含んだ動詞一語で表現するのが基本です。

ティーン＆大人向け小説ももちろん同様で、この英語の動詞表現方法を知らないと"ちょっと読んではつまづく"という挫折の原因になります。なので、やさしい児童書や絵本でボキャブラリーを増やしてから大作に挑戦するのがいいんじゃないかなと思います。
